Turns out that the post (or rather the whole table) was locked by the very same connection that I tried to update the post with. I had a opened record set of the post that was created by: Set RecSet = Conn.Execute() This type of recordset is supposed to be read-only and when I was using MS Access as database it did not lock anything. But apparently this type of record set did lock something on MS SQL Server 2012 because when I added these lines of code before executing the UPDATE SQL statement. RecSet.Close Set RecSet = Nothing.everything worked just fine. So bottom line is to be careful with opened record sets - even if they are read-only they could lock your table from updates. But, here is my question. The query that 'times-out' is not a long, cpu/ram/hd intesive query. By no means should it ever take longer than 30 seconds. Best Regards, Troy. Thanks for the reply Ajmer, I agree with your statement on 'Seeing other errors indicating the timeout', like 'DBNETLIB' or etc. I am not sure if the query has ever taken 30 seconds to be honest. The problem is happening on the customers Retail Software and only occurs randomly while posting a transaction to the database. ![]() (The cashiers don't know an exact time it takes to bomb) Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the default timeout set in the application code? Or, can the timeout be set in the registry/server properties.? The reason I ask is because I do not have access to changing the application code.(It's an OLTP product). Hi I have an ASP page that runs a stored procedure to pull data back from the SQL 2005 server. The query runs fine in SQL Query Analyser and.
